Are You Ready for the 2025 CVSA Roadcheck Inspection Blitz?

From May 13-15 the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) will be holding its International Roadcheck commercial vehicle inspection blitz. This years focus, Tires and Hours of Service.

In last years Roadcheck Blitz, tires accounted for 21% of out-of-service (OOS) violations in the United States, second in cause for OOS violations. Brakes led OOS violations last year in the US, coming in just a couple percentage points above tires.

Pressure Systems International recently worked with the CVSA to help update the tire OOS violation criteria in regard to trailers with an Automatic Tire Inflation System (ATIS). Now, if a trailer has a properly functioning ATIS, it can avoid a possible OOS violation if the tires are still meeting certain criteria.

The new criteria reads as follows, "Tire connected to an operable ATIS has a noticeable Leak (e. g., can be. heard or felt) specific to the tread area and it is significant enough the the ATIS cannot maintain inflation pressure greater than 50% of the maximum inflation pressure marked on the tire sidewall." per CVSA.

What this means for fleets is that if you have an operable ATIS and it is maintaining tire pressure above 50% of the maximum inflation pressure marked on the sidewall, you will not receive an OOS violation for tires. Barring the leak is audible or can be felt. Though the tire will still be cited on the inspection, it will not place the trailer OOS.

This updated OOS criteria will give drivers the opportunity to stay on the road until they are able to get to a maintenance shop to get the tire repaired or replaced. Helping prevent costly roadside calls and downtime.
